Portraits & Figurative

Normally, painting stresses me out. I put a lot of pressure on myself to make each painting “perfect,” and it honestly baffles me when I hear people say that they paint to “relax.”  Believe me, there’s nothing relaxing about getting halfway through a complicated painting and suddenly realizing that you have no idea what you’re doing...but you have to finish it, anyway, and *perfectly*, because someone’s waiting for it!

The only time I ever really “lose track of time” (the way normal artists do!) is when I’m painting a face. For some reason, I just love the challenge of trying to capture an expression and convey a mood. I’m also a lover of beauty, so women’s faces are a joy for me to paint. It’s even fun to try to capture the beauty in someone who doesn’t think she is beautiful.

The human face is my favorite subject...
